DISCOVERY PROGRAM
WHAT DOES THE DISCOVERY PROCESS
NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL?
-
Participants should choose to take part and not be told to.
-
Participants are guided by facilitators, not teachers.
-
Participants focus on the now and leave restricting doctrine and routine at the door.
-
Participants experience unfamiliar situations that challenge their expectations and assumptions, and intensify curiosity and open-mindedness.
-
Places for discussion are far removed from the typical classroom venue. Places for discussion are far removed from the typical classroom venue.
-
Places for discovery that are visited have different work values and purposes, with leaders motivated by a cause other than profit. These will be more memorable, more challenging and more inspiring. Consider a youth centre run by reformed criminals, an environmental advocacy group, a start-up company run by university drop-outs, a retirement village where the residents are co-owners of an organic farming and flower collective.
-
These visits are organised but never scripted.
